Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention: a Project ADAM approach in the community
Richard Lamphier, RN;
Melissa Olen, MSN, FNP-C
(Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the young is a devastating incident that may be due to silent problems including arrhythmias, prolonged QT syndrome, and HOCM. Project ADAM is an initiative that can be replicated in many communities to prepare communities and schools to screen and take action in the event of an SCA. This session will describe a pilot project ADAM implemented at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Data will be shared and guidance provided for communities interested in replicating the project.)
At the end of this session, participants should...
- Know the epidemiology, prevalence, causes, and who is at risk of SCA
- Understand the effect of restrictions for patients at risk of SCA
- Understand the use of preventative measures in the community settings to decrease the risk of SCD and improve the quality of SCA survivors
