(Pediatricians may be involved with their community schools as school consultants, parents, or school physicians. Some may serve on School Health Advisory Council. Also, many of pediatric patients with chronic diseases are in mainstream schools. This session will address the role of the Pediatrician in supporting the school’s emergency preparedness.)

Objectives

At the end of this session, participants should be able to...

  • Learn about the epidemiology of emergencies at school and the general emergency management framework
  • Discuss emergency readiness for specific chronic medical conditions
  • Highlight the role that the Medical Home can play in supporting the school’s efforts in preparing for an individual student emergency at school
