CME Faculty Guide

Speaker Resources

Below is a list of other useful guides and resources you can use in preparation for your presentation. More information can be found in our NCHS Faculty Handbook.

General Resources - For All Presenters

Plan for your audience
Most of our programs are planned to educate a mixture of general & sub-specialty medical professionals, and may include allied health professionals or members of the general public. Refer to your invitation letter or contact the meeting planner to get specifics about your event.
Preparing to Present
Our meeting planners will include activity-specific tips in your invitation letter and email on how to prepare for your day of presentation.
Generally, we ask speakers to have their presentations ready before the activity date to ensure any materials prepared for the audience mirror the information presented. Specific deadlines will be communicated to you in your invitation. We ask all speakers to respect these deadlines to avoid technical difficulties on the day of your session.
Presentation Needs
Make sure to complete the Speaker Confirmation Form listed in your invitation email. This form will tell us if additional preparations will be needed for your talk.
If you are presenting on-site in our Main Auditorium, you will have a podium computer available with a limited internet connection, PowerPoint, and dual monitors that will allow you to read notes as you present.

Presentation Requirements

Disclosure Slide
Per ACCME requirements, a disclosure slide is required to be included in your presentation. You should make this your second slide, following your title slide. Your disclosure slide should inform the audience of any relevant financial relationships, and if your presentation contains discussions of any off-label/investigational use of a commercial product.
Sample Language:
  • "I have no relevant financial relationships with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial product(s) and/or provider(s) of commercial services discussed in this CME activity."
  • "I have the following financial relationships with the manufacturer(s) of a commercial product(s) and/or provider(s) of commercial services discussed in this CME activity..." Include the name of the company, the type of relationship, and your role.
  • "I do/do not intend to discuss an unapproved/investigative use of a commercial product/device in my presentation." Include the name of the product(s), drug(s), or device(s).
If your presentation does not include slides or presentation material, speakers should verbally announce their disclosure information at the start of the session.
HIPAA Compliance
Ensure your content/presentation is HIPAA compliant (e.g., uses only de-identified patient information). It is your responsibility to notify us when there may be PHI present after submitting your presentation.

Resources & Tips for In-Person Sessions

  • We ask all presenters to provide their presentations ahead of time. Your presentation will then be pre-loaded to the computer to be used for your session.
  • Avoid making last-minute changes to your presentation unless necessary as changes may not match the syllabus or handout given to the audience.
  • If you must make changes to your presentation, contact the activity coordinator/planner as soon as possible to notify them. Be prepared to present your original presentation - without the changes - if there is no time to update the file on the presentation computer.
  • You could, alternatively, create an additional slide at the end of your presentation listing changes that could be provided to the audience separately.
