  • To identify the key considerations and potential risks associated with prescribing antidepressants to children and adolescents, including the need for thorough evaluation, close monitoring, and awareness of potential side effects like suicidal ideation and behavioral activation. 
  • To understand the evidence-based guidelines for choosing an appropriate antidepressant medication based on the child's age, presenting symptoms, and severity of depression, with a focus on FDA-approved options and their specific characteristics . 
  • To explain the importance of integrating psychotherapy alongside medication management when treating pediatric depression, including strategies for educating patients and families about the treatment plan and potential side effects .
