Dr. Jennifer Mariko Thompson is an adolescent medicine specialist and serves as education director within the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (FIU HWCOM) in Miami, where she was inducted into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society and was a finalist for the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. Dr. Thompson then completed her residency in pediatrics at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where she was recognized with a Patient Safety Hero Award, Empathy/Compassionate Caregiver Award and Resident/Fellow Clinical Teaching Award. She went on to pursue a fellowship in adolescent medicine at the same institution, during which time she earned First Place for Original Research by a Fellow Award. Her clinical interests include eating disorders and reproductive health.

Dr. Thompson is board certified in general pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She also works for the Pediatrics Board Review as a content contributor and editor for both the core and MOCA study guides. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at medical conferences, including the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM). Dr. Thompson volunteers her time as a clinical instructor for FIU HWCOM and has been teaching its pediatric clinical skills capstone course since its inaugural year. She also serves as one of the interviewers for the admissions committee at FIU HWCOM. Dr. Thompson’s volunteer work entertaining patients who are hospitalized at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital dressed as a superhero has been featured on both CBS Miami and FIU News. 

Dr. Thompson is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is bilingual with native proficiency in English and Japanese.
