Renewing your Florida Medical License is essential to ensure compliance with state regulations and professional standards. Below is a detailed breakdown of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements to guide you through this process.
General CME Requirements
Medical Errors CME
- Hours Required: 2 hours
- Details: This course must be completed in every license renewal cycle. It focuses on preventing, identifying, and addressing medical errors in practice.
Domestic Violence CME
- Hours Required: 2 hours
- Details: This course is mandatory for every third renewal cycle. However, you can complete it during any cycle, and it will count toward your general hour requirement.
General CME Hours
- Hours Required: 38 hours
- Details: General hours cover a wide array of topics relevant to your practice. CME credit earned outside of the required topics will count towards your General CME Hour requirement.
Controlled Substances Prescribing Course
- Hours Required: 2 hours (if applicable)
- Details: Physicians with a DEA license must complete this course to satisfy state requirements. The course must be board-approved.
Timeline for Credit Completion
- Your CME credits must be earned within the current licensure period. For those renewing in 2025, this means credits must be completed between February 1, 2023, and January 31, 2025.
Additional Information
- Physicians should keep track of their CME credits and ensure all activities are properly reported to CE Broker, the official repository for CME credits in Florida. If you completed courses through our iLearn platform, be aware that not all activities report automatically to CE Broker. Badges indicating the reporting status for each activity are shown in the activity's Accreditation Details section.
- Controlled Substances courses require additional approval from the board of medicine. Our institution does not offer these courses, but you can find board-approved options through external providers listed on the CE Broker website.
