Dr. Altman is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician-led group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He has served as chief of the Department of Radiology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital since 1998 and been with Nicklaus Children’s Health System since 1984. He has exclusive pediatric experience with expertise in neuroradiology and angiography. Dr. Altman is also Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists chief for the section of Radiology, an associate professor of radiology at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and a clinical professor of radiology for Florida International University. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and conducted his residency in radiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, followed by a fellowship in pediatric neuroradiology and interventional radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. His clinical interests include neuro-congenital malformations, metabolic diseases and tumors, and interventional treatment of low-flow vascular malformations.
Dr. Altman was the recipient of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology’s 2015 Gold Medal Award. He has received numerous grants and conducted research with an emphasis on functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dr. Altman has lectured nationally and internationally and is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, Florida Radiological Society and the Dade County Medical Association. He has written chapters for a variety of medical textbooks and his work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Altman also holds appointments as a reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology, American Journal of Radiology, Brain and Neuroradiology.
