I was born, raised and medically trained in Peru, where I developed a fond appreciation for research, medical education, and advocacy and a deep interest in pediatric infectious diseases. During my time at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, I participated in several research and social responsibility projects in pediatrics, including mostly malnutrition and microbiome. After graduating from medical school, I worked as a primary care physician in the Peruvian Amazon and later at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Alexander von Humboldt, where I served as a research assistant in a Fogarty-funded program for research capacities in AIDS (PARACAS). Subsequently, I finished my residency training in pediatrics at Nicklaus Children's Hospital where I also completed a year as chief resident. During residency, I worked in several clinical research and quality improvement projects to improve antibiotic stewardship and Evidence-Based Medicine practice. My research interests include antibiotic stewardship, microbiome dynamics and tropical medicine.
