Colin Knight
Dr. Colin Knight is a pediatric surgeon with Kendall Pediatric Specialists in Miami, Florida. Dr. Knight has practiced in Miami for over a decade and has an academic appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.
After growing up in Pennsylvania, he began his higher education at Yale University, earning a BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He continued his education at the University of Virginia where he earned an MD and completed a surgical internship. After that, Dr. Knight went on active duty in the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon in the 28th Bomb Squadron. He served for four years as a primary care doctor to flyers and their families. As a trained aircraft mishap investigator, he worked as a human-factors expert for several aircraft mishaps including a fatal F-16 crash. He practiced travel and occupational medicine and served abroad in support of the first Persian Gulf war. He flew routinely with his squadron, and logged hours on other airframes as well. When he left active duty, Dr. Knight continued his training in General Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. While a surgery resident, he devoted a year to ground-breaking research in applications of surgical robots to pediatric surgery. In particular, he investigated using surgical robots for fetal surgery and microsurgery. After finishing his surgical residency, he specialized in Pediatric Surgery with training at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Dr. Knight is board certified in Surgery and Pediatric Surgery.
Dr. Knight has served on several committees at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. He is currently serving on the Membership Committee and is the Vice-Chair of the Audit Committee for the American Pediatric Surgical Association. In addition to his professional service, Dr. Knight founded and ran, for six years, Chefs Up Front, the major annual fundraiser for FLIPANY, a non-profit devoted to improving the health of children in South Florida. The father of two sons, he founded and ran the All-Pro Dads program at Sunset Elementary School.
