Gilbert Smith, DO
Dr. Gilbert A. Smith is a child and adolescent psychiatrist within the Department of Psychiatry at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania. Dr. Smith then completed a residency in psychiatry at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami, Florida, followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Larkin Community Hospital and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. His clinical interests include sexual identity, gender identity, gender sensitivity, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and trauma, as well as child and adolescent mental health advocacy.
Dr. Smith is board certified in psychiatry. He has presented at medical conferences and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Florida Psychiatric Society and Association of LGBTQ Psychiatrists.
Dr. Smith is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
