Ms. Léi Sun is a fifth-year doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Miami. As a biracial individual with diverse lived experiences, she is fascinated by the processes through which one develops self and cultural identity in attachment relationships. This passion further informed her research interests in attachment theory and psychotherapy processes. She has published scholarly work and delivered presentations at national conferences on psychotherapy efficacy, loss and trauma, therapeutic dynamics, and diversity education. Ms. Sun is an active student leader of the American Psychological Association (APA), serving as the Student Representative for Division 29, Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy. She recently received the 2022 – 2023 Scholar Award from APA Division 39, Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology.
As a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in Florida, Ms. Sun worked in community mental health, hospital, forensic, and university settings. She has served patients from diverse backgrounds, including underprivileged children, families, and adults with chronic illness and mood and personality disorders. She also facilitated support groups for individuals undergoing bereavement. In addition, Ms. Sun is a standing member of the Psychotherapy Action Network (PsiAn), advocating for depth- and relation-based psychotherapy and mindful implementation of laws pertaining to psychological policy in education and health care systems.
