Ibukun Akinboyo, MD
Dr. Ibukun Akinboyo is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Duke University Hospital, and the Medical Director for Pediatric Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology. She earned her medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical Center of Thomas Jefferson University. She completed her Pediatrics residency and Pediatric Infectious Disease fellowship at The Johns Hopkins University. Her research efforts are centered on outbreak investigations, central-line associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs) in immunocompromised patients and standardization of surveillance techniques for neonatal CLABSIs in resource-limited settings. Additionally, she works on collaborative projects to introduce solutions adapted for infection prevention in limited resource settings and specifically for pediatric patients. Her ongoing efforts in mitigating community spread of COVID-19 has culminated in a medical expert role on the inaugural Durham Recovery and Renewal Task Force focused on comprehensively working with state public health officials, local health systems, local business and community leaders, public schools, local universities, and local governments to ensure a well-coordinated reopening response. Recent efforts also include her work on the ABC Science collaborative, a program that pairs scientists with school leaders to understand relevant information about COVID-19.
