Jose A. Adams, M.D. (Tony)
Dr. Adams was born in Havana, Cuba, and grew up in South Florida. He attended Medical School in San Jose, Costa Rica (Universidad Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas), and returned to Miami to do his internship and residency followed by Chief Resident in Pediatrics at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital. He remained at the University of Miami and completed a Neonatal Perinatal Fellowship in 1989. He is board certified in neonatology and an active member of the Neonatal Resuscitation program of the American Academy of Pediatrics/American Heart Association, and a fellow of the American Heart Association. He has served as the Chief of Neonatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1989 to the present. He leads an active research program in cardiopulmonary research at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at Florida International University since its inception and a faculty member at the University of Miami, NOVA, and Barry University. He practices neonatology full-time and has served on various advisory boards.
His research interests include both basic and translational physiology research. The current line of research in his laboratory includes the effects of pulsatile shear stress on vascular endothelium, cardiomyocyte, and muscular function and signaling.
