Rani Gereige, MD, MPH, FAAP

Dr. Rani Gereige joined Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (NCH) (Formerly Miami Children’s Hospital) in February 2010 as the Director of Medical Education & Designated Institutional Official. He currently holds a faculty appointment as a Clinical Professor, in the Department of Pediatrics at Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. In his role at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, Dr. Gereige oversees the Undergraduate, Graduate, Continuing Medical Education, and Faculty Development Programs. He participates in medical students and residents/fellows education.
Dr. Gereige received his BS in Biology (With Distinction) and his MD from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He subsequently completed a Pediatric Residency and Chief Residency at USF/ All Children’s Hospital. He then completed a Masters Degree in Public Health in Maternal and Child Health at USF. In February 2010, he graduated from the USF Leadership Institute. He is the recipient of several teaching awards from residents and medical students including the 2003 Arnold P Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award. He is listed in the List of Best Doctors in America® from 2009 to 2015.
Dr. Gereige is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a member of the Academic Pediatric Association (APA), the American Pediatric Society (APS), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD).
Prior to joining Nicklaus Children's Hospital, Dr. Gereige served as a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida (USF) College of Medicine where he held the positions of Interim Division Chief of General Academic Pediatrics, Fellowship Director of the General Academic Pediatric Fellowship, and the Course Director for the Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Course at the USF College of Medicine for the second-year medical students. He also held positions at USF as Associate Director of the Pediatric Residency Program for six years and the Associate Pediatric Clerkship Director for USF Medical Students for 3 years prior to that. In addition, at USF, Dr. Gereige directed the School Health and Sports Medicine residents and medical students' rotations and the EBM residents' curriculum. He designed the curriculum for training residents in school health including an Adopt-A-School program.
At the State level, Dr. Gereige served as Assistant Medical Director for the Children's Medical Services in the State of Florida for Pinellas and Pasco Counties. He also served on the State Oral Health Fluoride Action Team and was instrumental in the train-the-trainer program for Fluoride Varnish in the State through the AAP Preceptorship Program, and advocating for Medicaid reimbursement for Oral Health Risk Assessment and Fluoride Varnish application in the Medical Home.
At the national level, he currently completed in 2019 a six-year term on the AAP National Conference and Exhibit (NCE) Planning Group. He is currently a member of the AAP Committee on Continuing Medical Education (COCME), and the editorial board of Pediatrics in Review where he serves as the CME Editor. Dr. Gereige also serves on the NBME USMLE Step 2 Interdisciplinary Review Committee (IRC), the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Pediatric Residency Review Committee where he serves as the Vice-Chair, and as a surveyor for the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). In addition he serves as a Faculty Advisor for the APA Educational Scholars Program. Dr. Gereige is also a member of the Childrens Dental Health Project (CDHP) Executive Board. Previously, Dr. Gereige completed a six years term on the national AAP executive committee of the Council on School Health where he served as the newsletter and website co-editor. He also served on the AAP Oral Health Initiative, as a faculty for the AAP Chapter Advocates in Oral Health Training (CATOOH), and later completed a six-year term on the Executive Committee of the AAP Section on Oral Health where he served as the Chair of the Education Program.
Dr. Gereige is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is the co-editor of the AAP School Health Policy and Practice Manual (7th Edition). His interests include Oral Health, School Health, primary care Sports Medicine, Public Health, Evidence-Based Medicine and QI, Children with Special Health Care Needs and Sports, as well as Medical Education.
